Troopers Showcase Seat Belt Safety at Nebrasketball Games

January 30, 2018 (lincoln, Neb.) – As Nebraska basketball fans were cheering on the Huskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena, Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) were encouraging seat belt use to thousands.

At three Husker home games in December and January, NSP gave fans the opportunity to feel the effects of a rollover crash and the power of a seat belt. Troopers were able to spread the message of seat belt safety to an estimated 42,000 people. By riding “The Persuader”, fans were turned upside down, but held in their seat by a seat belt.

“This was a great opportunity to reach a large number of people in one place,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “The Highway Safety Office does a great job of delivering safety messages at Husker sporting events. Our ability to complement those messages with a demonstration right there in the arena helped drive the point home.”

This effort was made possible thanks in part to a grant for $4,455 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office (NDOT-HSO).
